Engineer

These careers may involve reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics or computer-generated reports; researching, designing, evaluating, and installing mechanical products or equipment; and investigating equipment failures and recommending remedial actions.

Mechanical Engineers apply theory and principles of engineering to modify, develop, test, or calibrate machinery and equipment.

Environmental Engineers apply theory and principles of environmental engineering to modify, test, and operate equipment and devices used in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental problems, including waste treatment and site remediation.

Industrial Engineers apply engineering theory and principles to problems of industrial layout or manufacturing production, usually under the direction of engineering staff. May perform time and motion studies on worker operations in a variety of industries for purposes such as establishing standard production rates or improving efficiency.

Biomedical Engineers apply knowledge of engineering, biology, and biomechanical principles to the design, development, and evaluation of biological and health systems and products, such as artificial organs, prostheses, instrumentation, medical information systems, and health management and care delivery systems.

Electronics Engineers lay out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems, such as computer equipment, missile control instrumentation, electron tubes, test equipment, and machine tool numerical controls, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics
